HIV/Aids
Ninety-six percent of people with HIV live in the developing world. Despite evidence that prevention programs instituted around the world are beginning to have an impact, the epidemic continues to grow in Africa. Nearly a million new infections were reported between 2003 and 2005.
In some African countries, three quarters of those infected are women - many of whom have not had more than one sexual partner.
