Crisis Pregnancy Centre
Wilson and Grace Goeda founded The Dignity Centre with the purpose of restoring dignity back into members of a very poor community.
Each week, the children in the
community are served a hot meal; a simple act of kindness
which bridges the staff to families in the community. The
crisis pregnancy centre reaches out to women and teens who
find themselves pregnant and in crisis situations.
HIV/AIDS, rape, abortion, abuse and miscarriage are some of
the issues discussed amongst these young girls, who are
often only children themselves.
The stages of pregnancy and newborn care are taught, as
some of these young girls are even unaware of ‘where the
baby comes out.’ Grace is also instrumental in finding
affluent families to ‘adopt’ families in need, who in turn
provide food, water, clothing, electricity, and
transportation to and from hospitals/clinics for families
who are suffering from HIV/AIDS. Grace then helps families
apply for birth certificates and identity documents so that
they may receive anti-retroviral medicine and regain their
health. The last step is to actively participate in
empowering women to find jobs to provide care and education
for their families.
Leur Présence is partnering with Dignity Centre in the
building of a primary school, so that the young children in
the area do not have to risk traveling 3 hours by foot and
train to receive an education!
